August 28th - Chestnut

THIS WEEK'S PLAN:

DATE:  August 28th, 2013
TIME:  6:00pm
TRAIL:  Chestnut
Chestnut is a nice trail that is all uphill on the way in, and then all downhill on the way back out.  Most of it is rideable, but there may be a steep spot or two where you have to hike-a-bike. While the Chestnut trail is fairly long and steep, it is not technical and is a great ride for all levels of bikers.  It is about 5 miles from the trailhead to the top of Chestnut Mountain, although with it getting darker earlier, we will likely turn around sooner.

York 38 Special

The York 38 Special is my favorite ride of the year.  It's laid back, great scenery, awesome volunteer crew, delicious cookies, and ends at York Bar with a burger & beer!  I haven't missed a year yet, and hope that I never do.

This year I got to ride the 38 mile loop with a pack of mules and some mule-friends!  I wasn't quite sure what the competitive, snarling mules would think of such a relaxed ride?  Turns out that I'm not the only mule that likes cookies!  And a bonus, if you feed a mule enough cookies, it is easier to keep up with them!!

August 21st - Leverich

THIS WEEK'S PLAN:

DATE:  August 21st, 2013
TIME:  6:00pm
TRAIL:  Leverich Canyon
Leverich is probably the most popular bike trail in town. It is a grueling uphill that loops around to a downhill that is full of swooping-banked-corners. While the uphill is steep, it is also relatively short (the whole loop is only about 5 miles). Besides, if those DHers (Down Hill Bikers) in the group can haul their heavy bikes up the hill, you can make it! Check out the GPS from last year.

August 14th - History Rock

THIS WEEK'S PLAN:

DATE:  August 14th, 2013
TIME:  6:00pm
TRAIL:  History Rock
History Rock is a Bozeman classic ride.  There is a pretty good description of the trail on the Wilderness & Recreation Partnership Website.

August 7th - Bear Canyon

THIS WEEK'S PLAN:

DATE:  August 7th, 2013
TIME:  6:00pm
TRAIL:  Bear Canyon
Bear Canyon is fun for all level of bikers.  The trail is about as wide as an ATV, so in many areas we can even ride two wide... which is great for conversations.  While it is mostly uphill on the way in, it is a fairly gradual uphill in comparison to many of the other trails in the area.  I don't have a good GPS to show of this trail, but it is about 6.5 miles in to the lake (so 13 miles roundtrip), if you make it the entire way.  Since it is an "out and back" - you can pick how far you want to ride. Given the amount of bugs out the last few weeks, you may want to consider bug spray this week. Oh, and the ride back out... ALL SMILES!!
